Showboat Park Revitalization

Showboat Park - Proposed New Playground Equipment

What makes a park a park? Visitors! A park without visitors doesn’t have much value. That’s why we want to breathe new life into Showboat Park.

Now that’s not to say that Showboat Park is lacking visitors. Many people enjoy walking the trails, playing a game of baseball, basketball, or disc golf. The river is also enjoyed by many people fishing and kayaking.

However, just because something works doesn’t mean it can't be improved and during the recent Community Strategic Planning session it was decided that Showboat Park could use a little extra attention.

Now not everything can happen at once and not every idea can become a reality, it would be cool if it could though. This will be a multi-phase project likely to span a few years, so let’s get started.

Phase one is going to consist of new playground equipment around the upper pavilion. Due to insurance reasons the old equipment had to be removed and it is about time something new went up in its place, and what better way to do that then with the first fully accessible playground set in our parks.

You will see throughout the life of this project different ways to interact and give feedback so please check back often and make your voice heard. You may even find clues of what’s to come in future phases. Hint: Look closely at the labels on the equipment layout pictures.

Basketball Courts

4 months

You spoke, we listened. Many people expressed concern about losing one of the basketball courts and we would like to address those concerns.

Yes, the court closest to the pavilion will be removed as part of this project. Seeing as that court is often vandalized it is often not used, and that is what brought us to our decision to remove the court.

Now the other court, near the bathrooms, will remain where it is and we would like to refurbish the court and give it a face lift. Were looking at new backboards and a fresh coat of asphalt.

Our question to you is where would you like to see a new basketball court, should another one be needed in Showboat Park?

Down in the back flats near the baseball fields, in the front flats, drop a pin on the map to let us know where you would most like to see a second basketball court if needed in the future.
